by

The search for its new CEO continues Euroleaguefollowing the departure of Marshall Glickman from the position.

With the board set to make the decision to meet on Thursday (15/6), one name is emerging as the hot favorite to take the job. Specifically, it is about him Paulius Motiegiounasits current General Manager Zalgiris Kaunas.

The Lithuanian, as reported by BasketNews, is very close to taking over as CEO, however there is one complication that needs to be resolved. And that’s because o Motieyounas owns 75% of the shares of Zalgiris Group, which essentially owns the Lithuanian group. If he starts duties as CEO of the Euroleague, the Lithuanian should distance himself from the Kaunas club so that there is no conflict of interest.

During his tenure MotiegounasZalgiris has had significant success in the EuroLeague, reaching the playoffs three times and the Final Four in 2018.

The Lithuanian businessman took over the ownership of Zalgiris when the club was struggling with a huge debt of almost 13 million euros in 2013. However, within five years, he managed to eliminate this debt. In recent years the budget of the team from Kaunas has reached record levels.
