Deschamps: “Greece is a very good opponent, Poget has done a good job offensively”

On Monday night (19/06, 21:45), our national team will face France in Paris, for the fourth match of the second group of the Euro 2024 qualifiers.

A little while ago, the “tricolor” gave a press conference ahead of tomorrow’s match, with the team’s Federal coach, Didier Deschamps, to talk to better words about Greece, but also for her work which has been presented by Gustavo Poget.

At the same time, the 54-year-old technician also referred to relationship which he maintains from long ago with the Uruguayan coach of the “blue and white”, as both were teammates at Chelsea in the 1999/00 season.

What Didier Deschamps said in detail:

For tomorrow’s lineup: “All 23 players are available and trained today as normal. I’m not going to rotate. I don’t have all the details yet, but I have in mind the team I would like to see tomorrow.”

For the Greek national team: “Greece is a very good team with Gustavo Poget doing a good job offensively. They have many aggressive qualities. They do very well on the pitch, as they have players who like to have the ball at their feet and set up combinations from the flanks. When they don’t have the ball, there is the aggression and pressure that is needed. I watched them in the match against Ireland. We have a very good opponent against us.”

For the favorite title: “I don’t want people to see us as favourites, because that won’t guarantee us a positive result. I’m not worried, but I’m not going to overlook anything either. We are playing on our home ground and we will have the crowd on our side. The victory is very important to get close to the goal of qualifying.”

About his relationship with Gustavo Poget: “I spent a year with him at Chelsea (they played for the Blues in the 1999/00 season). It was a good year on a human level, as there were many French-speaking and Spanish-speaking athletes on the roster at the time. I have met him again since then and we have talked. He had left his “stamp” on Chelsea. His character, his aggression, his temperament as a South American. It will be my pleasure to see him tomorrow and to greet him after a while.”
