Elizabeth Teltsidou wins gold in Kazakhstan – Even closer to “Paris 2024”

by

Elizavet Teltsidou’s dynamic return to the medals leading to Paris and the 2024 Olympic Games. The 7th Olympic champion of Tokyo, under the guidance of the national coach Nikos Iliadis, conquered the top in the Grand Slam held in Astana, Kazakhstan and on the one hand as of today is even closer to the French capital, on the other hand he “broke” the record of Ilias Iliadis by reaching a total of four medals, against three of “Mr. Ippon’.

Teltsidou, who before the Kazakhstan event was 5th in the Olympic ranking of -70 kg and 9th in the World, reached three gold medals and one bronze in the Grand Slam, in a period of less than 10 months. It is characteristic that as many times as she reached the Grand Slam final (Astana, Tbilisi, Abu Dhabi) she managed to win the gold medal, while she was third in the Tokyo Grand Slam last December.

The obstacle of Nisandaikizi from Kazakhstan was overcome successfully and without much effort by Teltsidou in the round of 16, while with formal procedures she also “cleaned” Roumana Moskalou in the quarterfinals. She qualified for the semi-finals after a clean Ippon victory over China’s Feng, while in the final she defeated Van Dijk from the Netherlands on a Golden Score, 3rd at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, two-time “bronze” world champion (2022, 2021), holder of five medals in European championships and No-4 in the Olympic ranking. She had also met Van Dijk in the final of the Grand Slam in Tbilisi, last March, where she prevailed and won the gold medal.

It should be noted that Teltsidou will compete in the Mongolian Grand Slam next week.
