Beijing Winter Games Organization announces that it will not sell tickets

by

With the increase in the number of cases of Covid-19 in China due to the advancement of the omicron variant, the organizing committee of the Winter Olympics decided to suspend the sale of tickets for the event to the general public.

In a statement made this Monday (17), the organization of the Games stated that the tickets will be distributed only to selected groups. However, these groups were not detailed.

Before, it had already been announced that the presence of foreign audiences would not be allowed in the dispute. Athletes will live in a “sanitary bubble” during the Beijing Games, which begin on February 4.

Anyone who is within the selected groups and has a ticket to see the event will still have to comply with health rules, such as wearing a mask and social distancing.

The new restrictions for the event were announced shortly after China reported a case of community transmission of the omnipresent variant and also hit the highest number of new coronavirus cases since March 2020: 223.

In response, the Chinese government is trying to apply the so-called “Covid zero” policy, with severe restrictions to try to contain the spread of the pandemic.
