by

Achilleas Chrysidis was unlucky in the “small” final of the 139 kg Greco-Roman at the European U20 Wrestling Championship in Spain, after he lost 4-3 to the Estonian Erik Pank and placed fifth.

It should be noted that Chrysidis took a 3-0 lead and looked to be in control in a hard-fought match, but was unable to hold onto his lead until the end, with the Estonian initially reducing it to 3-2 and leading 4-3 after challenge. Chrysidis fought with a serious finger injury that he received at the beginning of the “small” final and, in fact, after the end of the match he was taken to the hospital.

It should be noted that the champion of Katerini had also lost the qualification in the quarter-finals in the details. Against Azero Mazaim Mardanov, who finally reached the final, he was ahead 1-0 and tied, as a result of which he was sent to the repechage.

Khachaturov in repechage

Christos Khachaturov will have the opportunity to compete in the 82 kg repechage of the Greco-Roman. The Greek wrestler was defeated by the Swede Johansson and will now face the Czech Jiri Gada. If he qualifies, he will face the Moldovan Mihai Gutu for a place in the “small” final.

Premiere with three entries in women’s wrestling

In the women’s 55 kg category, Evdoxia Papadopoulou will face Germany’s Rebecca March in the qualifiers on Wednesday, while in the 68 kg category, Nicoleta Barba went directly to the quarterfinals, where she will face the winner of the pair between Azera Marzigia Sadigova and Serbia’s Emilia Jakovljevic.

Finally, in the 76 kg qualifiers, Eleni Chrysikakis will compete with the Hungarian Veronika Nikos and, in case of victory, she will meet the Ukrainian Maria Zenkina on her way.
