The reason he chose PAOK was revealed by William Trost-Ekong in an interview on the “black and white” PAE channel.
In particular, the Nigerian stopper mentioned that he wanted to go to an ambitious team with a good coach like the “two-headed man of the north”, while he maintained that he is a team player and will give everything he can to it!
At the same time, he made a special mention of Koulierakis, saying that he has watched him and knows that he is a talented football player.
In detail what Trost Ekong said on the PAOK channel:
For your transfer to PAOK: “I am very happy. It was indeed two long, but nice days. I arrived in Thessaloniki early on Monday morning, saw a little of the city, went through medical tests, met the people of the team who had not traveled for the preparation. And yesterday the same… We had to finish the signings, I took a walk in the city. Full days, but now I’ve arrived here and I’m very happy because the most important thing for me is to be with the team and start working.
I feel good. I only had a short break, just five after the end of the season, then I had obligations with the national team, then I had a week off, I didn’t do anything, I worked individually to be as ready as possible. I knew something could come up at any moment and I wanted to be in good shape. I worked a lot, but it’s different to work alone than to work together with the team. I can’t wait to start working with the team and I feel good.”
For the reason he chose PAOK: “It was a crazy couple of weeks, but I was clear about what I wanted. I wanted to join an ambitious team with a good coach and in a city where I can be happy with my family. I spoke to the coach, the club, the technical director and they were all clear on what they want from me and their plan for the team.
I already knew a lot about PAOK, having seen many of their European games and I was impressed by the fans. It was a clear decision for me. A lot happened, but I told my agent that I want to go to PAOK. I was very happy when we agreed on everything.”
How would you describe yourself, what can you offer: “It’s difficult to talk about yourself, but I can say that I’m 29 now, I’ve played in different leagues in Europe, I have experience with the national team. I am a player who plays for the team. As a central defender I see the whole field and I think I am a leader. I was captain of many teams. I always try to help the team and make them play better.
I really like playing defense, making a nice tackle, helping the team for me is like scoring a goal. I live to do this. I always give 100%. I am always proud to wear the colors I stand for. Now I am a PAOK player and the reception from the fans and the club was excellent.
I want to give my best for the team. I would love to win something in my first season here. We have a great chance now in qualifying for Europe, also the league and the Cup. I want to be part of PAOK’s history.”
On whether he thinks he can offer PAOK with his experience: “Being a bit older, I believe it will be part of my role in the team. I know of course there are many top professionals in the group. I have seen the young players in the team, especially the central defender, I know we have players from the academy and they are ready to play for the first team. I will be there to give them advice if they want, guide them and help them become better.
I remember that when I was young I had experienced players by my side who helped me a lot. I want to do the same for my teammates. I want to start and see how good they are. I have heard excellent words, both about the players, but also about the PAOK academy in general. It is the best in Greece. I want to work with the new players and for others to come to the first team.”
