The announcement in detail:

“PAE ARIS announces the acquisition of Jonathan Diego Menendez.

Menendez, born on March 5, 1994 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, has signed a one-year contract with our team (with the option to extend for two more years).

He started his football career with Chacarita Juniors, his hometown team. After working his way up to Chacarita’s first team, Jonathan Menendez first tried his luck outside of Argentina in 2012, signing for Spanish side Sevilla.

After 56 appearances and 4 goals for Sevilla’s second team, the 29-year-old Argentine midfielder returned to familiar Chacarita Juniors in 2015.

There he managed to play 16 times (3 goals) in the Primera B, before leaving for Talleres in the summer of 2016, where he spent a great two years really showing his skills (31 appearances, 10 goals) in the Primera Division.

Independiente recognized his value and bought him in January 2018. Menendez was subsequently loaned out twice. For a semester at Al-Rayyan in Qatar and for another year at Talleres, where he again found more playing time.

In the summer of 2021 ‘Joni’ got his MLS experience, playing for Real Salt Lake in a ‘full-on’ first season.

Last season saw Jonathan Menendez return to his country again this time to play for Velez Sarsfield in the first half of the season and for Newell’s Old Boys in the second half of the season (17 games in total).”

“I will work hard to achieve our goals”

After signing the contract, Jonathan Menendez made the following statement on our team’s official website:

“I am happy to have signed for Aris. I know very well that I have come to one of the biggest teams in Greece with fanatical fans, who are always by their side and support them with passion.

I can’t wait to meet my new coach and teammates and start training.

I promise that I will work hard and help ARIS with all my strength to have a successful football year both in Greece and in Europe and to achieve our goals.

We’ll see you on the field for the rest…”
