An emphatic upset and a great qualification to the “8” of the Cup was celebrated by Panathinaikos, prevailing 3-2 sets of Olympiakos indoors at Rentis.
The “greens” had a tremendous performance on the block (10-21) and with Eva Hadava leading they got the big victory and the ticket for the continuation of the event.
The “red and whites”, on the other hand, were twice ahead in the sets, however, they collapsed in the tie break and reached a fatal second defeat this year by the “eternal” opponent. Katerina Giota left the game with an injury.
In the first set, Olympiacos led 15-12 and held control with 19-15, having the dominance in the reception. Panathinaikos ran a series of three points and reduced to 19-18, however Giota kept the lead for the red and whites (20-18). The “clover]continued to push and equalized at 22-22. A mistake by Panathinaikos gave the “red and whites” the lead again, while a block and a lucky ace from Hippe finished the set, for the 1-0 of Olympiakos with 25-23.
Panathinaikos entered the second set better and led 16-9, while keeping control throughout. With a block by Hadava, the “greens” reached the set of bowls with 24-15 and tied at 1-1 with 25-17.
Olympiakos took control of the third set and taking advantage of the mistakes of the “greens” led 16-10. Panathinaikos reduced to 16-13, but the “red and whites” kept the difference constant and made the 2-1 set at 25-20.
Panathinaikos went up defensively and with a serve by Hadava led 13-9, while Piraeus tied at 17-17. The “greens” found the solutions for 20-17 again and with Hadava starring again, they sent the match to the tie break.
There, Panathinaikos was the absolute leader and with a terrible series led 11-3 and the game ended.
