After four years, Mr Mathieu Valbuena leaves him Olympic. Shortly after PAE’s announcement, it was the turn of the 38-year-old French midfielder to say goodbye to the “red and whites” with a highly emotional text.
“Olympiacos has a special place in my heart. I will forever be proud to captain this legendary club and be a part of your history. I will never forget any of you, nor will I forget the atmosphere in Karaiskakis. The only feeling I have for Olympiakos is love and that will never change. Olympiacos is part of my life“, he says, among other things.
Valbuena’s message in detail:
“Dear Olympiakos family.
It’s time to part. We have had a wonderful journey filled with many unique moments: From signing my contract in Piraeus in 2019 to participating in some intense European battles, we have experienced so many emotions but the most important thing is that we brought Olympiakos back to the top of Greek football! Where it belongs! This last season was not the best for the club but I trust the management and the team to bring Olympiacos back to the top like we did in 2020.
The last four years have been truly incredible: 3 Super League championships, 1 Greek Cup and of course some unforgettable European nights. I came to the club in 2019 with my humble desire to give everything for Olympiacos, which I did.
I have to thank the president who brought me and Jose Anigo who advised me to sign for Olympiakos. This was the right decision. I immediately loved Athens and received so much love from the club and the fans. From the bottom of my heart I feel blessed by the unbreakable bond we created together. Olympiacos has a special place in my heart. Athens has a special place in my life and all of you have brought me so much happiness and fulfillment
I am sorry that our beautiful history has come to an end but I will forever be proud to captain this legendary club and be a part of your history. I will never forget any of you, nor will I forget the atmosphere in Karaiskakis. The only feeling I have for Olympiakos is love and that will never change.
