The announcement in detail:
Athens Kallithea FC is pleased to announce that Alekos Vosniadis has taken over as first team coach.
Bosniadis, 62, has won promotion to Super League 1 three times with Apollon Smyrnis, Niki Volos and Corfu. More recently he had taken over the technical leadership of Apollon Smyrna for a period of time during the 2022/23 season, contributing to the team’s third-place finish in the league.
Born in Thessaloniki, Bosniadis had a three-year stint at local third division club Anagennisi Epanomi early in his coaching career, and led Epanomi to promotion in the 2010/11 season, returning the club to the second division after a 29-year absence.
From Epanomi, Bosniadis moved to Apollon Smyrnis with immediate success, winning promotion to Super League 1 in the 2012/13 season. The following season, Bosniadis picked up six points from the first seven games in Super League 1 – enough to stay out of the relegation zone – before the club decided to make a change in leadership, and the team were later relegated back to the second division.
In January 2014, Bosniadis took charge of Niki Volos midway through the season, and guided them to a second-place finish and promotion to Super League 1, returning the club to the league’s top flight for the first time in 48 years.
Bosniadis returned to Apollon midway through the 2014/15 season with the team struggling in the second division and coming very close to promotion, while also reaching the semi-finals of the Greek Cup before being knocked out by Olympiakos.
In the 2015/16 season, Bosniadis achieved the third promotion of his career to the top division, this time with the Corfu team, finishing second in the league table and overtaking Apollon, his previous team. He later returned to the club midway through the 2017/18 season in Super League 1, earning 15 points in 16 league games.
Over the last five seasons from 2018/19 to 2022/23, Bosniadis has partnered with Chania, Niki Volos and Apollon in the second division, achieving 52 wins and 33 draws in 116 league games, which equates to 1.63 points per match.
In the previous season, Apollon Bosniadis forced Kifisia, the team that won the promotion, to one of their two defeats during the campaign.
