by

A loss is happening in the last few hours in Larissa with him Sergio Nunes! Her former player AEL leaving the Thessalian city gave an interview to “Freedom”, asking not to be published before he reaches his country, and drops… bombs about the way he was treated in the team! From the PAE, moreover, they categorically deny what he says and emphasize: He has 48 hours to make amends»!

Sergio Núñez’s interview in detail:

First, he said:Thanks for the invitation, I came here like every kid from Uruguay to live the dream, to become a famous player. They had told me very well about Larissa that it is a quiet safe city and they told me relatively well about the team. Unfortunately, things did not go as I expected».

“Thank you for the invitation, I came here like every kid from Uruguay to live the dream, to become a famous player. They had told me very well about Larissa that it is a quiet safe city and they told me relatively well about the team. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as I expected.”

*What do you mean they didn’t go as you expected. You play three games in a row, score a goal and then you don’t play at all. What changed;

“I started well scoring goals, but suddenly the league stopped… I didn’t expect this, then I got injured, I got a contusion I couldn’t play and then there were problems with the coach. The team’s coach resigned. Then the managers who brought me left and I lost the support I had in this team”.

*You came from Peñarol, a legendary Uruguayan team with the best recommendations and you didn’t even play in the Twenty20. Was it your wish or did something different happen with the team?

“Unfortunately, different things happened besides football. I came from Peñarol from the legendary team, but I did not expect these things to happen. I was resentful for financial reasons for a while not being paid when I came in January. So after that it was hard to keep playing.

*You stayed with your girlfriend in a hotel room. What was in your contract about accommodation and travel?

“When I came here I stayed in the hotel, I expected to stay for about fifteen days. I had signed other things in my contract, I would have a car, I would have a house. I had been promised them, we had discussed them before I came. They had spoken to me before I came and were telling me the best about the team and the situation in Larissa. But when I came they didn’t happen like that and until now when I’m leaving I didn’t get a car or a house. To the next young people who will come and because some things were promised and some things happened, I would tell them if they have an offer from somewhere else to go there.”

*Did you talk to other players who are your compatriots who are in Greece?

I have spoken to players after the issues I was experiencing. I was told that these problems are common and common. Not being paid, not having a house, not having a car. I came from Peñarol, but I had a house. Here in Larissa to stay in a small hotel room with noise and some other issues. These problems did not allow me to play good football. Example, I was thinking about the food I would eat that day. I had serious problems and all this affected me for football.

*We found a translator for today’s interview, did the team have for you during your stay in Larissa?

“Again, the team did not help us there, not even with a translator. I personally don’t speak English and luckily my girlfriend came. It would have been very difficult without her help to be able to communicate because there was no translator. We had been promised a house and my girlfriend and I were finding houses, even though the team told us they didn’t exist or weren’t available. But when it was time to close the house they asked for some money in advance, we didn’t have the money to give them and the team didn’t help us at all.

*Teammates, coach, didn’t they help you? Your teammates said they helped you…

“Regarding teammates, they cared a little about me, in general I have complaints. They didn’t help as much as they could. After all, football is not so much a team game as an individual one. From the moment you sign the contract, someone looks after his own interest, his family. I never heard the coach’s voice because he didn’t talk to me.”

*You gave an interview to a media outlet in your home country. Then you refuted some of what was written. What happened?

“That night I had to take some things back. Some of the group came and threatened us that I have to take some things back and defend them or they would send the police, obviously I would go to jail and they wouldn’t give me tickets to go back to my country.

*Your stay in Greece is difficult. You’ve had difficulties since you were young… Your life started with an accident at a young age…

“My stay in Larissa was indeed difficult. I had an accident when I was 2.5 years old. I was playing ball with my brother and she ran across the street and we were chasing her… At that moment a truck passed by and hit me, I stayed in the hospital for 13 days, I was admitted and the worst of all was that everyone was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to walk at all. I faced it with great courage and boldness because I wanted to get well. I am from a very poor family and I learned to struggle…

*When you were young, you sold donuts, cakes, you have five siblings…

“I try to be a role model for the young kids. I feel proud, I started from very low and to reach high you have to face every difficulty. I still have a lot to do, I’m young… I believe that with effort you can reach high…

*You didn’t even have a heater in the house where you grew up…

“The truth is that everything was difficult. I got to know the hot water at the age of 15 when I went to Peñarol to her home. Until then, in order to have hot water, we heated it in a basin and we all washed.”

*Diego Forlan believed in you and put you in the colors of Peñarol in a first division match on August 16, 2020…

“I owe him a lot, I had him as a father. He was important to me, in 2010 I saw him on TV at the world cup and ten years later we would be together with the great man and player. He marked me and helped me a lot.”

*In Greece there are Uruguayans like Garcia who made a good name. Would you consider coming back to our country?

“When I came to Europe I did not expect this situation I faced. I wouldn’t come back to the second division, to the first yes… I will go back to Uruguay to find a manager. Every footballer’s dream is to play in Europe.”

*Did you enjoy the country at all despite the problems?

“I have very pleasant memories, for example from visiting the Acropolis in Athens. Some of our friends helped us to go.”

*Which friends?

“We were taken by Spanish friends I had met through social media. I also met friends here in Larissa…”

*How did you see Larissa as a city?

“I liked Larissa as a city, it has good people and safety on the streets. I come from a country where when you walk in the city you don’t feel safe”.

*Did you make friends in the city?

“I have made many friends, one friend broke my heart when he brought me food. We will have them here because we will leave. That’s how football is.”

*In Uruguay now that you are returning what will you do?

“I am returning for personal reasons to Uruguay, my future as a footballer I want to be in Europe and may God help for that.”

*I think that this is the goal of all the young kids who come to Greece, like Kossonou for example.

“I imagine the same. Let’s first help our families financially with a very good career in Europe and play for the national team.”

*Chances to play in Peñarol in the new year?

“I don’t have a contract yet, my dream is to close and play in Europe.”

*Will you go to the wedding with Juliet?

“The truth is that Juliet and I are together for personal and professional reasons. When I fall psychologically it helps me to rise. We are engaged, the wedding will happen at some point…

*The difference between Europe and Latin America economically…

“In my case it was the opposite, in Uruguay I was paid better than in AEL, it was a disappointment. In Europe there are good stadiums, different behavior of the people, nice facilities, there are big differences”.

*Why didn’t other teammates react like you did?

“I don’t know why they didn’t react, it’s a matter of culture, in Uruguay they help each other to achieve common goals. I noticed when I came that a teammate had been pushed aside and I wondered why they weren’t helping him…

*You mean the right back…

“Yes I’m talking about that teammate, when the coach came back he came back too. Maybe they don’t talk so they don’t suffer the same…”.

*How did you see the Super League 2 and Super League 1 championships?

“In Super League 1 the level is good and the same is not the case with Super League 2 where there are serious problems. They don’t develop well, matches are postponed, players don’t train only on the weekend when there are matches. I wanted to reach the first division with AEL”.

*You managed to score a goal…

“I came with the hope that the team will reach the A’ category. After the first match I fulfilled the original goal, all the issues came except football and the matches we didn’t play well.”

*You spoke in an interview in your country about yellow and red cards received by players. Was this a rumor?

“Here at AEL, I didn’t see it to be honest. But football is a profession, if the players are not paid and influenced by various things, can’t they get to the point of accepting cards in exchange for money because of their financial situation?

*What would you like to say to the people of Larissa about AEL now that you are leaving?

“Thank you all for the hospitality, I’m sad that we didn’t get the goal I came for, I wish success to the team which is an important team because they know how to compete and that’s important for a player. I hope charges will be brought.”

*You also saw episodes in Super League 2 (including Niki Volou-AEL)

“I’m used to that in my country.”

The reaction of PAE AEL to the above interview was as follows:

PAE-AEL has absolutely no intention of letting the Uruguayan international slanderer go by the name of Nunez Sergio go unpunished, as he invokes obscenities that only fit his own profile…

We will give him 48 hours to make amends, as he did with great ease in the past when he left Larissa.

Attached is his written statement for the worldwide readership.

You see characters like this one who aren’t just footballers, it’s extremely easy for them to argue and contradict.

When your interlocutor’s credibility is in tatters, whatever he says against us, is really irrelevant.

Especially when the statement is made by the unethical, according to heaps of third-party complaints.

Legally, however, because the international follower in question has committed himself with a serious written statement, as long as he does not ask for another apology out of the many, for the fantasies he peddles, then he will be faced with convictions and compensations that his football career, known to all of us, will not be able to cover.
