THE National team completed her World Cup friendlies in Greece yesterday with defeat by Italy for the Aegean Acropolis and now counts down for the trip to Asia.
The “official favourite” has her last day off today before leaving on Tuesday for Abu Dhabi and the final friendlies, with USA (18/8) and Italy (19/9), but the day is… long. And that’s becauseprobably during the day it will be definitively clarified whether or not Giannis Antetokounmpo will participate in the World Cup.
The Greek Freak met with the Bucks’ medical team for the scheduled tests and measurements on his knee to determine his condition after rehabbing from his June cleanup. The result is expected immediately, with the odds—realistically—not going in favor of the Greek Freak.
After all, he has to train normally for many weeks, following the rehabilitation program and doing weights all this time. The same he wants to play, he has fought it until he can’t (after all, with the NBA starting on 10/24, he had no other reason to be stressed), but he is losing the battle with time. With two weeks now left for the World Cup jamball, everything indicates that Giannis Antetokounmpo will be absent, for the second time since Eurobasket 2017, when a knee problem had kept him out.
As regards to Costa Antetokounmpo, it seems that everything will become clear a few hours before the national team gets on the plane to Abu Dhabi. And in his own case, things do not look promising, as he has been fighting since May 22 and also has not done any training, only a rehabilitation program. In fact, as Dimitris Itoudis had said, the measurements taken a few days ago showed that his readiness was not at the desired level after the surgery.
