Ioannidis: “We don’t know our ceiling yet – Football-wise, I haven’t experienced anything better”

by

With his own penalty in the ninth minute of stoppage time, o Fotis Ioannidis sent the match to overtime, with Panathinaikos then to celebrate a great qualification to the Champions League playoffs on her Marseille on penalties!

Speaking after the end of the match, the Greek forward referred to the progress of the match, in… cold blood which one needs to execute a penalty, but also at football ceiling of the “greens”, which they have not yet reached!

Fotis Ioannidis’ statements in detail:

For the qualification of Panathinaikos: “Football wise, I have never experienced anything better, these are wonderful times we are living. It was a game of two sides. In the first half we couldn’t do what we planned after conceding goals too quickly and then the match was strange for us. Unfortunately we didn’t react quickly, then we conceded the second goal in a bad spot. In the second half we cleared our minds, we were more focused, we kept the ball and that’s how we achieved this miracle. And I say a miracle for how the game developed, because otherwise in the first game we showed that we are a team that can play against them.”

For the two penalty kicks: “The truth is that in these moments you want to be calm. Of course there is stress but you have to fight it and execute in cold blood. I made it today on both shots and I’m very happy about that.”

On whether Panathinaikos can advance to Europe: “It is up to us to move forward. We don’t know our ceiling yet. We shut out a big team and we have metal.”

For Brignoli: “As for Brignoli, it is understood that he is decisive, he has shown this while he is with us. Of course, the other goalkeepers also play their role and have helped us, like all week with the penalty kicks.”
