Football violence in the wake of the latest tragic events in New Philadelphia is at the heart of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ meeting with UEFA president Alexander Ceferin, who arrived at the Maximos Hall a few minutes before 10:30.
It will be followed on the 11th by an extended meeting at Megaros Maximos under the Prime Minister, with the presidents of PAE Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, AEK and PAOK as guests.
After the meeting with Mr. Ceferin and the extended meeting with the presidents of the PAE, in which the relevant ministers will also participate (Minister of State Stavros Papastavrou, Minister of Citizen Protection Yiannis Oikonomou and Deputy Minister of Sports Yiannis Vroutsis), the Prime Minister and the UEFA president will make statements to the press (12 noon).
According to information from SKAI, the prime minister is expected to send a message of zero tolerance to fan violence and will ask the presidents of the four major PAE to join forces in a united front with the State and UEFA to finally put an end to the phenomena of violence.
In particular, the prime minister is expected to emphasize that the legal framework exists and is indeed strict, calling on the PAE to become participants in the effort to implement and faithfully observe the law.
The focus of the contacts will be the role that UEFA can play in this effort, as it has the expertise and full knowledge of what is happening in European football as a whole.
