The announcement in detail:
Vassilis Kavvadas is also in Lavrio!
KAE Lavrio announces its agreement with athlete Vasilis Kavvadas for the 2023-2024 season.
Born on December 28, 1991, with a height of 2.05m, Vassilis Kavvadas plays as a center.
He started his career at Ioniko Nikias in 2008.
He made his A1 debut two years later, as a player for Panioni, where he played for three years (2013).
His very good performances led him to Olympiakos, with whom he signed a five-year contract. He played in the Piraeus team for two years, won a Greek Championship and in the 2015-2016 season he was loaned to Arkadikos, having 14.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.
In the 2016-2017 season, he signed with Aris, where he averaged 9 points and 3.8 rebounds.
The following two years (2017-2019) he competed in AEK, with which he won the Basketball Champions League, the Intercontinental Cup and the Greek Cup.
In 2019 he signed for Heraklis and stayed there for two seasons. The first he averaged 9 points, 6 rebounds and 1.1 blocks. In the second season he had 12.3 points, 8.9 rebounds and 1 steal per game, performances that brought him back to the highest level, as he returned to the National team and competed in the Pre-Olympic Tournament (2021) under the instructions of Rick Pitino, while he signed a contract with Panathinaikos.
Last season he returned to Aris for a second term, having averaged 5.2 points and 3.6 rebounds in 15 appearances.
He has also competed with the Men’s National Team in the 2013 Eurobasket in Slovenia and the 2016 Pre-Olympic Tournament in Turin.
KAE Lavrio welcomes Vassilis to its family and wishes him a good racing year with good health!
In his first statements, Vassilis Kavvadas said: “I am very happy to be in the Lavrio team. For me, it is now one of the historical teams of A1, if I think that almost since I started playing at a professional level, I always face Lavrio.
I always respected Lavrio and what he was trying to do. It brings out something very beautiful, something healthy and familial and it was one of the reasons I made this decision, plus the fact that I wanted to stay in Greece, not go abroad.
I met the president, Mr. Evangelos Vodina, who approached me very nicely and made me feel comfortable from the first moment.
I don’t want to say too much about the basketball part. I wish everyone health and let’s work hard. With these two ingredients we will be able to achieve our goals.
Regarding the presence of young players from America and his own role in trying to adapt them to the new environment, he said: “I know that we will have guys in the team who are considered rookies. I know a lot of these kids will be anxious about how they will adapt to a new environment, but we will be here to help them, we will have the right changing rooms and make them feel comfortable to give their best and the team achieves what it wants”.
