Germany “ruined” Greece’s dress rehearsal!

by

A hard… lesson was learned by Hellas ahead of the start of the World Cup.

In the last warm-up friendly, the National team lost 84-71 from the Germanyin Abu Dhabi.

For about 25 minutes he had a good picture of his whole Dimitris Itoudishowever, from that point on completely lost control, with the Germans even reaching +20 (76-56), at the start of the fourth period.

The match

With Papagianni, Mitoglou, Papanikolaou, Luntzis and Walkap, Greece started the friendly. The National Team entered the first two minutes sluggishly, making mistakes and allowing Germany to go 6-0. Then, Itudis players found solutions with the offensive rebounds, but F. Wagner and Theiss sent the Germans to +7 (15-8), in the 7th minute. The image of the match did not change much in the last minutes, with Greece closing the first period at -6 (20-14).

With their defense as a reference point and Rogavopoulos entering the floor hungry, Greece started the second period with a 6-0 run to tie the game (20-20). Unanswered mistakes by the National Team followed, while F. Wagner returned to the court and responded with his own 9-0 for the Germans (29-20), until the 16th minute. The reaction of the national team was the three-pointers of Walkap and Rogavopoulos (29-26), with Theiss and Voigtman responding for +7 (33-26) of the Germans, in the 18th minute. However, in the remaining time the players of Itoudis tightened up defensively, kept their opponents without a point and taking advantage of the bonus of free throws closed the first half back to the point (33-32).

With good defenses and forwards of Walkap and Mitoglou, Greece entered more aggressively, as a result of which they took their first lead (40-41), in the first three minutes of the second half. Then, the National Team lost its rhythm (while the referees were giving… whatever they wanted) with Germany going on a 6-0 run (46-41), until the 25th minute. Greece “stood out” with a three-pointer by Rogavopoulos, but the mistakes gave pace to Obst and his long shots for +9 (53-44), in the 27th minute. Since then, the Germans were in control and thus escaped even at +11 (58-47), with the score of the third quarter being 64-55.

The Germans came even stronger in the fourth quarter and since Greece did not have the antidote for the “hot” Lo and Mo Wagner, the difference jumped to +20 (76-56), at 33′. The reaction of the National Team came from Mitoglou, Rogavopoulos and Walkap, who reduced (80-67), but Germany maintained full control until the end, taking the victory with the final 84-71.

The quarters: 20-14, 33-32, 64-55, 84-71
