Stefanidis: “I heard a crack in the test room and fainted, I hope it’s not serious”

About the injury that kept her out of the final at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, she spoke Katerina Stefanidisshortly after her exclusion.

As I get cold the pain gets worse. I’m not exactly sure what happened, I fell a little awkwardly on the mattress. Then they took me on a stretcher because I fainted, my pressure dropped a bit, it was a dramatic moment,” the pole vault champion initially told the ERT camera and added:

“Felt better, bandaged the leg, was told it might be a sprain and that we would know in 12 hours. I went out again in the last five minutes of the warm-up, missed most of the trials and made 1-2 jumps. I said ok, that if it’s like last year the qualification at 4.50 I could. With the wait it got worse, I had to do more jumps, run it a bit, but I was scared. Finally 4.50 wouldn’t be enough, they’re already up to 4.65 so I feel a bit better».
