Stefanidis’ message after the injury that kept her out of the final at the Worlds

by

Misfortune knocked at her door Katerina Stefanidis during the warm-up for the World Championship qualifiers being held in Budapest.

The pole vault champion turned her leg and failed to claim her qualification to the final. However, despite the intense pain that could have immobilized her, she chose to do three jumps, which, unfortunately, did not work out for her, as she was clearly in pain.

A day after the unpleasant experience, Stefanidis sent her message about what she went through. He described the difficult times and explained the reasons why he chose to fight, despite the pain. In fact, she sent an optimistic message for the future, with the hope that her injury is not the worst possible.

Read her message:

Not the best timing. Yesterday on my first test jump I fell awkwardly on the mattress and (probably) got a sprain. Due to the pain and stress my blood pressure dropped, I passed out and was taken by stretcher to the medical center. After we tied my leg I got back to the stadium 5 minutes before the tryouts were over and even though I was lying on a bed for an hour I managed to do 2 good jumps.

That’s why I decided to fight. There was no way I was going to quit at the World Championships. Unfortunately as time went on the pain got worse and when it was time to race I couldn’t put any weight on my leg.

We will wait for our return to Athens for the MRI, hoping that it is not something serious. I want to believe that in this misfortune I was a little lucky and avoided something worse. Thank you for your messages».
