They found them in… the middle Kennedy-Nazot

by

The two shared the women’s pole vault gold medal at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest. The American, winner of the event last year in Oregon, and the Australian, “bronze” in the USA event, both cleared 4.90 in the final of the event in the Hungarian capital and shared the lead, both marking the top performance in the world this year. This happened because from 4.50 to 4.90 they had exactly the same jumps.

Namely, they passed 4.50 and 4.65 with the first, while Kennedy passed 4.75 with the second, at the time Nazot left them. The American passed 4.80 with the second, while the Australian left them. Both then cleared 4.85 in the first and 4.90 in the third, but failed on all three of their attempts at 4.95 and Kennedy gave the Oceanian nation its biggest honor in its history.

Third was last year’s European champion, Finland’s Vilma Murto, with 4.80 in her first attempt, favored in the end to “tie” with Slovenia’s Tina Sutei, after the Scandinavian had better attempts at 4.75, scoring her best this year performance, while the former Yugoslavia set a national record.
