The acquisition of the 24-year-old left back from Veles Sarsfield was announced by Piraeus, who spent an amount close to 4.3 million. euros, as it emerges from Argentina, while his now former team maintains a 10% resale rate.
Ortega is the second left back acquired by Olympiacos within a few days, after the loan of Omar Richards from Nottingham Forest, while it is recalled that the “red and whites” granted Ramon to Espanyol on loan.

PAE Olympiacos announces the acquisition of the 24-year-old left back, Francisco Gabriel Ortega. He was born on March 19, 1999 in Santa Fe, Argentina and in 2013 joined the infrastructure divisions of Velez Sarsfield.
He made his first team debut on 27 November 2017 in his side’s 3–0 win against Club Olimpo, providing an assist.
He finished the 2019–2020 season having made 24 appearances, including eight in the Copa Sudamericana, where his team reached the semi-final stage. In 2020-2021 he made 38 appearances (six in the Copa Libertadores), scoring one goal and six assists.
The 2021-2022 season was the busiest of his career as he made 48 appearances, with one goal and three assists. The 12 games were for the Copa Libertadores, a competition in which his team reached the semi-finals.
With Velez Sarsfield he played in 154 matches, scoring three goals and 14 assists. He has represented the Argentine national team U20 and U23, but the one that participated in the Tokyo Olympics.
