Jansen: “The matches against AEK are at Champions League level”

by

Happy for Antwerp’s first participation in the Champions League groups, Vincen Janssen appeared after his team’s victory over AEK in New Philadelphia.

“It was a difficult match. It may not have been a spectacular game, but we played at Champions League level,” the Dutch striker initially said about the matches with “Union” in the playoffs of the top club competition.

The experienced forward then spoke about the quality of the Belgium double: “When Toby (Alderweireld) left the pitch, Jone (Van den Bos) came in and did brilliantly. As did Sami (Vines, who played in place of the suspended Bataille). This is our quality.”

As for how they will celebrate their success. “Maybe we’ll do something nice when we get back to the hotel. But we have to get up early (today) to go back to Antwerp,” he said.

This will be the first time for Janssen that he will be able to play as a starter in the Champions League. “I have not played as a starter in the Champions League. So this is special for me too. I hope to be important to the team. I hope to have some good moments and maybe some goals. In most matches we will be the underdog, but with the help of our fans you never know,” he said.
