The game started with Italy entering the first period stronger and leading by eight points (26-18). In the second quarter the Latvians stepped on the gas and with an impressive run found themselves leading at halftime.
In the second half of the match, Latvia “tightened up” its defense and with Skele as the protagonist, led just before the end of the 3rd period by up to 10 points (52-42).
Italy tried in the last quarter to turn things around, with Datome and Meli finding solutions from 6.75 but Bertans and Grazulis cleaned up the match for Latvia, who got the “pink card” with 87- 82.
