Marin: “I told Huang that Red Star is a higher level than Olympiakos”

How he convinced Huang to agree to continue his career in Red Star revealed the Marco Marin in his statements to Serbian media. The acting sporting director of the Serbian team admitted that he did not believe he was being persuaded and said that he approached him, pointing out that in one of the contacts they had he conveyed to him the view that Red Star is at a higher level than Olympiakos.

“We all believed that the next step in Huang’s career would be in some of the strongest European leagues. We kept in touch with him and waited for the right moment. A few days before we agreed we had a video call with him. He was in Munich with his Bayern friend Kim Min-Jae. I explained everything about Red Star to him and we took an important step.” Marin said – initially – and continued:

“Terzic (current executive director of Er. Astera) called him after a while and said: ‘Listen, on September 19 we are playing against Manchester City. We will celebrate your victory and your birthday together.’ The footballer was happy that the team manager knew when his birthday is. The atmosphere thus became much better. No one expected how we could get him. Everyone was shocked when we did. But if you don’t believe in something, then dreams cannot come true. He had a dilemma for the Serbian league, but Red Star is much more.”he emphasized and concluded…

“It’s a huge club. Someone had to tell him that he has won the Champions League because he didn’t know it. I sent him a video of our fans. He told me about Olympiakos that he knew we were twinned, but I told him that here is a higher level. We went step by step and he understood that Red Star was the right step for his career. I hope he shows his quality and can handle the pressure. We believe that he will succeed and that his next step will be in a top European league.”
