Super League: The fifth oldest league in Europe

by

The European football championships have started, along with the domestic one, and while there are still a few days left to completed and the free transfer window, club rosters have largely taken the their final form.

Making an impression of the situation, both in the top ten leagues of the Old Continent – according to the UEFA Ranking – and in the Greek one, the conclusion that emerges is that the Super League remains one of the oldest leagues with an average age of 26.9 years.

The comparison is not only about the Super League with the Top-10. Of all the 55 European member associations of UEFA, Greece has the fifth oldest average age, behind only: Andorra (27.9), Spain (27.4), Kazakhstan (27) and Gibraltar (27).

Undoubtedly, the sample, for one more year, is extremely typical for the lack of production process and promotion of footballers through the academies of our teams.

In the first ten European leagues, Austria leads the youth Salzburg (21.4m) who had a remarkable run in last year’s Champions League groups, has the youngest average age with 24.4 years.

On the contrary, the largest has Spain with 27.4 years, with the Atletico MADRID, of the 34-year-old Vitsel and Athpilikueta, the 33-year-old Vitolo and the 32-year-old Griezmann and Savic, to reach 28.5 years, second behind the previous team of Giorgos Tzavellas in Turkey Pedigspor (28.8).
