Switzerland took the responsibility, victory-gold in the 93′ for Israel

by

Back to winning ways for Switzerland in the 9th qualifying group of EURO 2024. After the “close” draws with Romania and Kosovo, Murat Yakin’s team Andorra prevailed 3-0in the context of the 6th matchday and took another step towards qualifying for the final phase.

Switzerland had absolute possession of the ball, exceeding 75% and tried from the first minutes, without success, to open the scoring. The hosts called for penalties on two occasions in the 23rd and 43rd minutes, but the phases were reviewed by VAR and the referee signaled for play to continue. During this time, Andorra were reduced to a passive role and the fact that they kept their home team intact was a success.

With the goal they were entitled to, the hosts entered the second half, who they opened the scoring with Iten in the 49th minute. The scene was the same, with the Swiss pressing and missing chances and the Andorran footballers trying to keep the score low. Amduni, Vargas and Stephen were among those who failed to score, for Xhaka to come in the 84th minute to… seal the win. The “icing on the cake” was put by Shaqiri in the third minute of stoppage time with a penaltyshaping the final result.

Redemption in the 93rd minute for Israel

With Gabriel Kanitchovki as savior (came on as a substitute in the 64th minute) in the third minute of stoppage time, Israel broke the resistance of a fighting Belarus with a score of 1-0 and climbed to the second privileged position, which leads to the finals.

The two teams entered with a desire to play football and not to “destroy” the efforts of their opponents. Israel’s players may have had more time in possession and missed opportunities to open the scoring, however, Belarus’ players were particularly dangerous on the counter-attack. Solomon, Weisman and Lemkin had the best moments in the first half for the hosts, while the visitors threatened with Volkov, Kotsevoi and Boharov scoring twice.

At the beginning of the second half, the home team came out stronger and if Plotnikov had not been in the home of Belarus, they would have opened the scoring. A fatal player was Gluck, who on three occasions could not achieve the coveted goal. As time wore on, Alon Hazan’s men increased the pressure, wasting more chances. The visitors had been reduced to a passive role and were now trying to keep a clean sheet and leave Tel Aviv with the point. After all, just before stoppage time expired, Kanichovski came up with a shot from inside the area to beat Plotnikov and give his team a valuable win.
