World Deaf Tennis Championship in the Municipality of Hersonissos: The draw for the competition

Along with the draw for the World Deaf Tennis Championship for Men-Women and Youth-Youth, the World Deaf Tennis Team Championship “Dresse and Maere”, 30 September-7 October, was held on Friday at the premises of the Lyttos Beach Hotel, co-organised by the Charity Enterprise of the Municipality of Hersonissos (K.E.D.X.).

The event is under the auspices of the General Secretariat of Sports and the Municipality of Hersonissos and is held with the support of EFOA and Z΄Enosis.

The draw of the Greeks in the women’s singles

Vasiliki Kalogeropoulou (No. 1 on the board) goes “by” in the first round and in the second round she faces the winner of the pair Phoebe Suthers (Great Britain) and Mara Optitz (Germany).

Vasiliki Kalogeropoulou spoke on the Federation’s website about her goals for this World Cup: “The World Championship starts in a few hours. I have done a good preparation and my aim is to do the best possible for me, for my Federation, representing my country. I was in this place two years ago, taking third place in the Pan-European Games. I hope this year to play well and achieve the best.”

17-year-old Anna Kasoumi faces the Polish Beata Kasparz in the first round and, if she continues in the second round, the winner of

pair of Riko Suzuki (No. 8 on the board) and the Indian Zaafiq Shaik.

Women’s doubles

In doubles, the Greek duo of Vasiliki Kalogeropoulos and Anna Kasoumi, after overcoming the obstacle of Sugimoto Chiaki and Yuria Miyagawa from Japan, will face No. 1 in the table, the Italians Christiana Abrami and Giulia Bassini, at 12:00 in the second round.

Men’s individual

In the men’s singles, Grigoris Samartzidis (No. 9 on the board) goes through without a match in the second round, where he faces the winner of the pair Gabriel Latsky (Israel) and Shao Wu Chu (Taipei, China). In the third round he faces the French Maxime Sanchez (No. 8 on the board).

Grigoris Samartzidis spoke before the games, on the EOAK website, about his goal in the event: “I prepared with a lot of training, so that I could achieve my goals, which are to claim a medal, making Greece proud and rise to the ranking of the world ranking”.

13-year-old Lazaros Skarpos faces the Australian John Peter Lui in the first round (09:00) and in the second round the winner faces the German Urs Ferdinand Breitenberger (No. 7 on the board). If he clears the hurdles, he will face Slovakian Marek Vako (No. 10 on the board) in the third round.

Double

In the doubles, the Greek duo of Grigoris Samartzidis and Lazaros Scarpou will face the Poles Witold Brzdil and Jacek Kalinowski in the first round (the match is scheduled for 12:00) and then, if they make it to the second round, the No1 on the table, the French duo of Michael Alix-Laurent and Vincent Novelli.

Mixed couples

Our country will take part with two mixed pairs. The first of the experienced Kalogeropoulou-Samartzidis, where they go straight into the second round, where they face the Japanese duo of Haruto Imai and Riko Suzuki (No. 7 on the board).
