Dabrauskas: “We have no right to be disappointed after such a game”

by

THE OFI held victory in his hands in the home match against Fearlessbut o Jubitana in the 86th minute he scored 1-1 for Peristeriotes and thus the two teams drew, for the 5th matchday of the championship.

THE Valdas Dabrauskas spoke after the game and referred to the goal his team conceded and failed to win.

“What can I say to my players after a game like this? They followed the plan, there were definitely some mistakes in the first half and the opposition could have scored. But in the second half we made many chances to find another goal. We tried to dominate, I have to praise my players because after the second goal they went ahead, but they couldn’t get a second goal.”

While at the press conference he said:

On what went wrong in the game and while OFI deserved to win, it ended in a draw: “The main thing is that we didn’t find a second goal. We have no right to be disappointed after a game like that, we have to leave here and live with the idea that the next game is in three days and go full force. I can’t say I’m disappointed with my players because I think they were very good. After the goal, we didn’t do what most teams do, retreat, but we tried to score a second goal.

In the second half, from the first minute we tried to score, to dominate, to score a second goal and not to defend. We had two goals, in other circumstances Bakic could have scored, I can’t say anything more. What we can do is fix some things that went wrong in the first half, we weren’t good at the start and the opponent had chances to score. To clear our minds, correct the mistakes, keep the positives and clear our minds for the next game. Panaitolikos is playing at home, away games are not always easy and we have to concentrate on that.”

For the gaps in the defense and if they play a role: “Our opponent creates much less chances compared to last season, after six years OFI has much better defensive and offensive statistics than negative ones, throughout. In the first half, the opponent had opportunities such as the phase with Pasalidis and perhaps the only opportunity created by Atromitos was that of the goal. Of course it’s not pleasant to concede a goal, I also understand the people and maybe it’s better to equalize in the last minutes and not to equalize. If you ask me, what would I prefer from today’s game or the ones with PAOK and Aris, the opponent will not score continuously in one phase and we will not send the ball to the post. In the five matches, we have started with three different goalkeepers, just like the elevens, and the aim is to correct the mistakes”.

As to whether these games are a lesson for OFI: “It is a process where there is progress and it takes time. Of course we are not happy with the one point but it also shows how the team has progressed through the fact that we are not happy with these results compared to last year. For example, the draws with Lamia and Atromitos all feel like losses. In this league there is a fine line between winning and losing and anyone can beat anyone. Since the beginning of the season, all the other teams believe the same. It’s not pleasant to lose points but we have to regroup and go to the next game to get the three points.”

In case of transfer: “We have a striker, there is also Dico and he has played more than Luiz Felipe who was for today’s game. We have players for those positions, injuries happen in football, it won’t take long for Riera and Dico to be back on the pitch and as I said on Wednesday, I really think we have a very good roster to achieve the goal of getting into the play offs. If theoretically a very good player is found then yes we will make a transfer otherwise we will not take the risk”.
