The first part of the Greek representation in the European Cups of the 2023-2024 period, in table tennis, ended today, Sunday 24/09, with one qualification. Malamatenia Papadimitriou, a representative at the individual level, was happy with LZ Linz Frösberg to advance to stage 2 of the Women’s Europe Cup.
At home for the 4th group of stage 1, the Austrian team initially competed and with a narrow 3-2 victory against Verdinamur from Belgium, they won the 2nd privileged position. The athlete of our national women’s team, in fact, was the one who shaped the final score.
A play-off match followed with Tigem Spor Kulubu from Turkey, who were also in Leeds for the 3rd group, and another 3-1 win brought qualification. The three-day 21-23/09 was preceded in Spain by the very good effort of Panathinaikos AO in the Women’s Champions League. He was eliminated in the groups, but he too will continue in stage 2 of the Europe Cup. We remind you that in the groups of stage 2, Bogoria of Panagiotis Gionis is directly in the Men’s Champions League.

According to the system, the first two and the next two groups of stage 1 each had a venue because apart from the 4 winning teams only 2 of the second would go through to the next stage. In other words, two decisive play-off matches between the runners-up were planned and the host team was also in this position.
LZ Linz Frosberg and Verdinamur were defeated on Saturday 23/09 by Polish Bebeto. The first place was decided and the holder of the 2nd place remained. The host showed better as a whole and won 3-2. Papadimitriou initially lost to the Belgian Cecile Auzer with 3-1 sets and in the last match she defeated the also Belgian Lili Lafinère with 3-0. She thus gave her team a chance to claim qualification and the opportunity was taken. Leeds beat Tigem Spor Kulubu 3-1 to progress to stage 2 of the Europe Cup. At 1-1 between the teams, the current champion of Greece in the Young women’s and youth singles defeated Turkala Neslihan Kavas with 3-0 sets. In the total of three European games of the two days, Papadimitriou’s teammates were Chan Ying Ying from Taipei, Slovakian Adriana Ilasova and Belarusian Daria Kissel.
