by

The 39-year-old ultramarathoner Fotis Zisimopoulos was the big winner of SPARTATHLON 2022. He finished his race in 21:00:48 and took the victory for the second year in a row.

The Greek champion traveled about seven kilometers more due to the wrong indication made to him just before Megara, however he gradually got closer to the leaders, and from the 12th place he held after the mistake, he finally found himself in the first place shortly after 21:00. He arrived at the statue of Leonidas at 03:45:59 on Saturday.

The Agrinio athlete Dimitris Kasimis achieved the third best time for a Greek athlete in the history of the international long distance race. Only the legendary Giannis Kouros has run faster, in 1984 with a time of 20:25:00 and in 1990 with 20:29:04.

The Japanese Somiya Toru finished second, who was leading throughout the race, until the Agrinio runner overtook him. The 42-year-old Asian completed his race in 21:08:04.

Hungarian Eros Tibor was fourth with 23:23:40. It was the 46-year-old’s first appearance in the event, in which he was in the top five for almost the entire race.
