Bayern “cleared” the “civil war” with Alba

by

With a counter-attack in the second half, Bayern comfortably defeated Alba 80-68 in Munich in the German “civil war” of this year’s EuroLeague premiere and got off to an ideal start to the competition.

The champions led +8 at the end of the half, but the Bavarians’ various runs in the third and fourth period gave them a +14 and, despite the pressure of the “albatross”, Pablo Lasso’s players reached the pink card.

Leading the winners were Francisco with 17, Bonga with 11 and Bolmaro, Booker with 10 points. For the visitors, Olinte, Tieman with 12 and Thomas with 11 points stood out.

The match

Boga gave a 5-0 to Bayern and the Bavarians kept the +6 with their correct choices in the opposing racket. The “albatross” responded with three consecutive three-pointers, after the Gondaleth regionals had a “hot” hand. Francisco took his “weapon” and with 7 consecutive points made it 17-13 with a personal 7-0 run for Pablo Lasso’s players. Nikic was trying alone for the champions and finally the first quarter ended at 19-17.

Tiemann helped fuel a 7-0 Alba run to start the second quarter and spark a 5-0 run for the visitors, who were pounding inside the racket and holding a +2 to +3 in that span, having found plenty of choices. Olinte made it +6 for Alba and a 5-0 run by 1995 Cup winners Koratz made it 31-39. With a new 5-0 run, Alba led 44-33 and the half ended at 36-44. The Bavarians had 24 rebounds and the champions 11/16 two-pointers and 10/14 shots.

Booker starred in an 8-0 Bayern run at the start of the third period that tied the game for the Bavarians, who with offensive versatility in the opposing racket went on a 6-0 run to lead 50-46 and 54-49. Bolmaro took matters into his own hands offensively and helped fuel a 7-0 run that made it 61-51 for Bayern at the quarter.

Wyler-Bubb made it +13 at the start of the fourth period and Olinte’s three-pointer cut the lead to single digits for Alba. Francisco “woke up” again at this point and helped in a 7-0 run for +17 Bayern. Alba found some solutions and reduced to -10 with a 7-0 run, but a 4-0 run by Bayern made it 78-64. Bolmaro “unstuck” his team in Alba’s 4-0 and finished the match at 80-68.
