Elite League: The young Greeks stood out in the premiere

by

In her premiere games Elite League Henry Dunan several young Greek players found space and time to show their talent. Out of the total of 163 players who stepped on the floor even for a second with the jersey of the 16 gladiators, 32 are under 23 years old! The percentage (19.6%) shows that around one in five players who played in the Elite League Henry Dunant are of an age where they can play in a development team (given also the right of many clubs to “drop” an U23 team in the Union’s local leagues their).

The spotlight may have been focused (and rightly so) on the “leadership” appearance of Yannis Karakostas in Papagos’ victory over Ayandas Evosmos or on the 4/5 three-pointers achieved by Alexandros Samonturov in his debut with Panerythraikos against Milonas, but there was much more the “talents” of Greek basketball that stood out.

See what the 32 under-23 players did in the first matchday:

Foreigners 25% of the points

If there is anything else worth pointing out, it is the decline of foreign players in scoring. It may be that the number of foreign players used in the league premiere is significantly higher than the corresponding one last year, but the foreigners are not proving to be just a one-man show. Proof is the fact that they scored 302 of the total 1212 points, which were achieved in all 8 games. The division gives a percentage of 24.9%, which means that 3/4 of the points in the premiership matches were scored by Greek players.
