Doukas: “In favor of double redevelopment – Maybe a grandstand on the Avenue will be preserved or a field will be built”!

A position for the new Panathinaikos stadium in Votanikos was taken by the new mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas. In his interview on the show “The Mismatches” of his television SKYMr. Doukas was asked about the double regenerationemphasizing that of course he wants to continue, while he also revealed his thoughts on the Avenue!

Specifically, Haris Doukas said about the double renovation: “Of course I want it to continue. It’s on my schedule too. I have it priced. We want Athens to have a state-of-the-art stadium, bioclimatic, environmentally and climatically as protective as possible. We want it to go ahead, based on the timetables. We will see the people and the agencies.

We have some thoughts on the Avenue, perhaps a grandstand will be retainedas is done abroad. Maybe there will be a small stadium, at the historical headquarters of Panathinaikos, for the children to play. We want it to move very quickly. We are certainly in favor of double regeneration».

It is worth noting that the new mayor of Athens had taken a stand on the issue before his election in an interview he gave to Athenian and Macedonian News Agency. Haris Doukas was also then in favor of building the stadium, however, he had indicated that he would prefer this construction to be done in a bioclimatic wayhaving a small carbon footprint, something that also happens in other big cities in similar buildings.

Also the faction, to which Haris Doukas belongs, in every vote for the Panathinaikos stadium in Botanikos and the double reconstruction, had been in favor.

Mr. Doukas said today, therefore, clearly that the project will proceed normally and in fact, he is interested in meeting the timetables set by the previous administration Kostas Bakoyannis, in the Municipality of Athens. The new thing, however, that the new mayor actually mentioned, concerns the utilization of the Avenue, after noting that he is thinking of not demolishing the entire “Apostolos Nikolaidis” in the context of the double redevelopment, but to leave a stand as monument of memories for all Panathinaikos or to make a small field at the spot.
