Olympiacos: Historic performances from Bartzokas and Milutinov

by

The comfortable victory of Olympiakos in Rhodes (59-102) will be quickly forgotten, however two members of Piraeus made history against Kolossos.

THE George Bartzokas became the third winningest coach in the history of the team in the Basket League, while also becoming the fourth to reach 100 regular season games on the bench. Giannis Sfeiropoulos reached this number, while only the late Giannis Ioannidis (130) and Dusan Ivkovic (128) had more.

At the same time, Mr Nikola Milutinov made his 119th appearance and with it entered the top 50 foreigners in the years of the professional Championship (from 1992-93) after surpassing Brent Pettway who counted 118 games with Elysiako, Rethymno, Olympiacos and Aris. Also, with the 13 points he had in the Rhodes match, he became the 26th overall Olympiakos player and the 8th foreign player to reach 800 points.

Collecting four defensive rebounds, he entered the top 15 of the overall list of Olympiakos players. He hit 341 and surpassed the late Roy Tarpley’s 338 in 1993-94.

Perhaps the most important of those accomplishments is that with four defensive rebounds and hitting 341 to pass Tarpley, Milutinov became the No. 2 player on Olympiakos’ all-time list. It is only a matter of time before it reaches the top, since Ignatio De Miguel is there with 14 more. The Spaniard collected 355 defensive rebounds in the four years 1999-2003.

Finally, regarding what Nikola Milutinov achieved yesterday, with the two assists he handed out against Kolossos H Hotels, he “climbed” a place on the list of Olympiacos’ foreign players. He is now 8th after reaching 126 and passing Lynn Greer who had 125 in 2007-09.
