AEK “saved” in the European League with drama

AEK narrowly defeated Kriens 30-29 in the closed Ano Liosion for the second matchday of the European League men’s handball and got its first victory in this year’s leading European interclub competition after the defeat of the premiere by Gornik Zabrze.

Union were better and completely controlled the match throughout, but in the finale they were in danger and needed Mandalinic’s goal at 59:08 to get the two points.

AEK led 15-10 at 29′, 15-12 at halftime, 28-25 with Zambic at 53′, while having the opportunity to reach +4, but Liapis from the center missed an empty goal.

The Swiss came close 28-27, Martinovic made it 29-28 at 57′, but Schmidt with two personal goals tied it 29-29 at 58:16. After the time-out, AEK scored with Madalinic, while in the last attack of the Swiss, Sternets missed from the position of the right winger.

Martinovic scored 7 and Mandalinic 6 goals for AEK. For Creens, Swiss handball record holder Andre Schmidt scored 11 goals.
