Andrej Stojakovic: “I haven’t decided whether I will play for the Greek or Serbian national team”

by

One of the biggest “coming soon” of European basketball, is the Andrei Stojakovic.

The son of the legendary Pezza despite not having… held a basketball in his hands until his teenage years, he has developed into a formidable prospect. He is now one of the best high school players in America, participating in the McDonald’s All-American but also in Nike Hoop Summittwo of the most popular games for talented young players in the US.

Now, the Greek-born 19-year-old prepares to begin his collegiate career in his jersey Stanfordand spoke to the COSMOTE TV camera about this new beginning, but also about whether he intends to choose Greece or Serbia in the future.

In detail what he said:

“I started taking basketball seriously during the Covid period! To tell you the truth, I didn’t love basketball before the coronavirus. I used to play basketball with friends just to do something when I was bored. Well, four years ago, the schools were closed, the stadiums were closed, there was nothing in America. I was outside with my father, we played basketball every day, we shot shots… We started and worked together every day. That’s how I started to feel love for basketball.”

On the first thing his father taught him: “Keep calm! Despite the excitement… I will hear boos and applause in my career. In any case, nothing should affect me. I want to be happy with whatever I do in the years to come. Of course the goal is the NBA but you never know. I don’t want to be affected by what other people think of me. I’ll go at my own pace and see. I want to get stronger in my game.”

On whether he has decided to compete in the future for the Greek national team or the Serbian national team: “I haven’t thought about it at all. I don’t even think about which national team I will play for. Now my priority is Stanford. When the time comes and they ask me to play with them sometime, then I will start talking with them. I’ll wait. No matter how long it takes… I’ll keep working.”
