After qualifying with the second place from the qualifying group of the World Table Tennis Youth Contender of Sobatelli, Malamatenia Papadimitriou advanced one more round in the age category of athletes up to 19 years old and was finally placed in positions 9-16.

In “32”, she managed to eliminate in five sets the French Elise Pouyol, number 8 of the competitions, and in the round of 16 she was eliminated by the Japanese Sachi Aoki, number 10. This was also Papadimitriou’s positive finale in the Youth Contender institution.

After many tournaments, in which she took part from the beginning of their establishment by the world federation, she changes with the arrival of the new year the age category in the Open and goes exclusively to that of women.

Our champion born in 2004 had a win and a loss in the group on Tuesday at the “Arena Savaria Szombathely”.

On the board, she was drawn with the 16-year-old Frenchwoman, Elise Pouyol, who had emerged as the winner in the eighth group of the qualifiers. Papadimitriou took the lead twice, equalized and with good choices and calmness won the decisive fifth set by a margin (11-9, 4-11, 11-8, 6-11, 11-9).

The next game against Sachi Aoki proved to be even more difficult. Our left-handed international had lost to another Japanese player in the group and was not able to threaten a very good athlete even now. He lost 3-0 sets and settled for the 9-16 places in the division (4-11, 9-11, 2-11).

Just how strong Aoki is proved throughout the day as she took the gold medal in the category in the evening.
