The opinion that the plan of the police to deal with violence is working is expressed by Giannis Oikonomou in his written statement. THE Minister of Citizen Protection he points out that from the murder of Michalis Katsouris in New Philadelphiawhich he refers to as “incident in New Philadelphia with the Croats in the summer” the situation has improved and he points out that “the police must do their job”.
Among other things, Yannis Oikonomou emphasizes that there are now arrests, detentions, while he emphasizes that ELAS now controls both Greek and European games. In fact, it states: “The Police themselves control the derbies of the Greek league“, in a forthcoming statement about 15 days after the Karaiskaki derby was stopped with the firecracker injuring Juancar.
Finally, he finds that there is a different behavior of the Greek fans in the stadiums in Greek matches with European ones, in a phenomenon that is a matter of culture and he believes that if ELAS continues like this there will be better results.

The plan to tackle violence with a sports background is paying off
For a very long time now, we have implemented a plan that has paid off quite well in terms of preventing incidents with audits that we have done, with links that we have “sealed”.
There is still the problem of violence with a sports background, but arrests are made, there are detentions and I would like to add one more dimension to the public debate:
The Police must do their job, I think recently after the incident with the Croats in the summer, you can see that the situation has improved and that it is being methodically dealt with at various levels.
We have police checks at Greek and European games. The same Police also controls the derbies of the Greek league, the same Police also controls the European games. In the European games – I think we will all agree – the picture in terms of the behavior of the fans is much better.
With the same controls, by the same Police. Why is this happening? Are other fans going or are other Police going to check? No, is the answer.
It is a matter of a wider culture, respect and better cooperation of all, in order to definitively isolate those everywhere who create incidents in the stadiums.
And I think we are on this path, we will continue on this path to get the best possible results.
