The text of Christos Theou on Facebook in detail

Dear friends,

I feel the need to position myself, regarding the events of the last few days that led to the end of the cooperation of PAE Olympiacos with the Metropolitan Hospital and resulted in the closing of a cycle of twelve years, as the head of the medical staff of the Olympiacos football team.

At this point, I would like to emphasize that, through my announcement, I am taking a public position for the first time, that what I mention in it is solely and solely that it expresses me and captures my thoughts and will, and that what has been seen by the public light and it concerns my person, it is nothing but the judgments and thoughts of third parties, as to date I have not spoken, nor have I placed myself in any means of communication, nor in a newspaper, radio, website or in any social media.

First of all, I would like to thank the entire Olympiakos organization for our many years of cooperation! These years were the best and most creative of my life, both on a professional-scientific, as well as on a social and personal level!

All the people I’ve worked with over the years are now family to me!

All the partners in the football department, the workers at the training center, at the Karaiskakis stadium, all the football players who wore the Olympiakos jersey over the years, all the coaches, all the people who staffed the PAE, all those involved in the Administration, all the fans of Thrylos who honored me with their respect and love, but above all at this moment, I want to stand and thank the President of Olympiakos Vangelis Marinakis for helping me live the dream! I can’t really find words to describe the emotions that overflow these moments and I don’t, because words are too poor to describe what I experienced in Olympiakos, they are trivial to express the titanic struggle we fought all these years and they are insufficient for to declare the respect and gratitude I feel for the world of Olympiakos and personally for President Marinakis.

I feel, I won’t hide it from you, deep inside that the period that will follow, will simply be a break that will mediate, until we meet again together in the effort and the fight for a strong Olympiakos.

Unfortunately, I read inaccuracies, that I was allegedly fired by Olympiacos, but this is an inaccuracy, the sole aim of which is to create turmoil within Olympiacos and ultimately harm the team and the organization.

The truth is that Olympiacos and the Metropolitan group terminated their cooperation and as I become the Director of the Orthopedic Clinic of the Metropolitan Hospital, my role as head of the medical staff of PAE Olympiacos also ends.

The management of Metropolitan, specifically the CEO Mr. Spyridis, gave me the opportunity 12 years ago to live the dream by bringing me into the Olympiakos family and indeed I can only feel gratitude.

All the people of the Metropolitan Hospital administration, medical, nursing, paramedical, administrative staff we work and fight, day and night for the best of our patients. We offer high-level medical services with the most modern medical-technological means and the most specialized scientific staff with the sole aim of benefiting patients. This is obviously confirmed by the effectiveness of Olympiakos’ health coverage and care over the years.

I am also obliged to inform the sports fans that my clinic at the Metropolitan Hospital is made up of a large number of staff (doctors, nurses, secretaries), who are currently dealing therapeutically with a large number of patients who have already operated and are monitoring their post-operative course, following recovery-maintenance and complication prevention protocols and that for the coming months, numerous surgeries are already planned to take place at the Metropolitan Hospital.

It is therefore reasonably understandable that it is practically impossible to abandon my patients and turn them into victims of the cessation of cooperation of two organizations, just as it is scientifically unethical to have patients with planned surgeries, which are critical both for their health and for the quality of life them, to be put in a state of uncertainty! I think this should be clear to everyone.

Therefore, it is obvious that I was not fired from Olympiakos, that the scientifically and ethically appropriate solution of my dedication to my patients was chosen and that once again Mr. Marinakis proved the quality of his character, his moral standing and the level his empathy, as he respected the priority of my patients and eased my position with his delicate handling of such a sensitive subject, protecting my scientific status!

For this attitude alone of Vangelis Marinakis regarding the understanding of my scientific and medical priorities, I owe him a big thank you and it alone proves his ability to handle delicate cases and keep balances, without discrediting his collaborators.

However, I must also comment on the events that took place in the recent Olympiakos-Panathinaikos derby and which were the occasion for a series of unpleasant and illogical developments, which led both to the eventual discrediting of the football product, and to the unfair punishment of Olympiakos in my opinion . After stressing that until today I have not been called by any competent body to testify my opinion as a doctor, who was present and an eyewitness to all the events, I would like to emphasize the following points that I consider crucial and important:

– The responsible doctor, regarding the management of the incident of the alleged injury of the football player Juancar of Panathinaikos, was only the doctor of the match and certainly not the medical team of Panathinaikos!

– During the management of the incident, every principle and protocol for dealing with emergency medical care and transportation has been violated!

It is really possible that an athlete needs immediate medical care and treatment and that more than five public or private hospitals, which were within a radius of 3-4 kilometers from the Karaiskakis stadium, are bypassed and the football player Juancar is chosen to go to the hospital of his team’s choice which is it located at a distance of more than 13 kilometers and in fact with the care and logistics of the people of P.A.E Panathinaikos?

Based on which protocols for immediate treatment of a medical incident was such a choice made?? Also, if the people of Panathinaikos claim that they did not trust the doctors on call in the Piraeus area, I consider this to be a blatant slander and slander of the Medical body, for which the Piraeus Medical Association must take a stand and also declare that the hospital that was chosen finally the footballer was discharged, because apparently PAE Panathinaikos has absolute “trust” in his medical staff!!

– It is also a derogatory choice, on behalf of PAE Panathinaikos, not to accept the transfer of the footballer to the Metropolitan hospital, which is located just 300 meters away from the Karaiskakis stadium.

I also want, on the occasion of this incident, to position myself as a doctor, who deals with football matters, that Olympiacos was grossly wronged by the decision of the competent bodies, both in relation to the attribution of responsibility to this team, and mainly by the events of the arbitrary transfer of the athlete to a hospital of his team’s choice and not the competent authorized doctor of the match.

This incident shows us that there must be a strict legal framework regarding the actions of the authorities in similar incidents, so that no team is wronged in the future, as in this case Olympiacos.

The decisions to transport alleged injured football players should be taken exclusively by the doctor in charge of the match and not by the teams and before the start of each match a specific public or private hospital should be designated as the exclusive reference hospital for the transport of football players or players of the match and in this respect no team will be able to raise objections, just as the choice of the hospital should be based on medical and therapeutic criteria and above all geographically, as it should be the closest to the venue race, where the injured person can be treated in the least amount of time! If this provision already existed, we would have avoided all this judgment, ambiguity, devaluation of the product and the punishment of Olympiakos as a scapegoat.

I want to conclude by emphasizing that qualities may change, partnerships may change, circumstances may not be convenient at times, but families never end and never separate!

So for me, the Metropolitan is my hospital, in which I have been working for 20 whole years and I fight within it for the treatment of my patients, but Olympiacos, on the other hand, is now my family!! How could it not be, after all, it’s been twelve years….

From my family, I think that I will never be missing! For my family I will never hesitate! And we who belong to Olympiakos will not be divided and will never be separated!

A big thank you as a temporary epilogue to all the people of the team, to our inextricable world with which I am connected by so many that cannot be counted and to the President Vangelis Marinakis, who honestly only we know in front of how many and how much we fought all these years , how much we hurt, how stubborn we were, how much we endured and how happy we were, that with him in front, we made the Olympian almighty and victorious!

With price,
