Two Brazilians competed in the Winter Olympics this Sunday (6), on the fifth day of disputes at the Beijing 2022 Games. Athletes Manex Silva, from cross-country skiing, and Sabrina Cass, from freestyle skiing, did not advance in the competitions.
Manex Silva, 19, was the first to compete. He received one more lap from the participants who were leading the race and did not finish the race. Alexander Bolshunov of the Russian Olympic Committee took the gold medal.
By the rules of the sport, when a competitor places a lap over another, the late participant is removed. The Brazilian participated in an unprecedented skiathlon event at the Olympics that combines the two styles of skiing, classic and skating, and covers a distance of 15 km each.
Silva, who was born in Acre and has lived in Spain since the age of two, will return to represent Brazil at Beijing-2022. On Tuesday (8), the athlete will compete in sprint – freestyle; on Friday (11), in the 15 km – classic style; and on the 19th, at the 50 km mass start – freestyle.
Later, the Brazilian Sabrina Cass, 19, was in 16th place and failed to advance to the final of the moguls, a freestyle skiing modality. Australian Jakara Anthony took the gold medal.
On Thursday (3), Cass was the first athlete from Brazil to debut at the Beijing Games. She took 21st place in the first descent of the moguls. The top ten places went straight to the final.
Sabrina Cass was born in the United States to an American father and a Brazilian mother. She bids farewell to Beijing-2022.
