For the positive results of the National Team: “The appropriate expression is that we owed it to ourselves with the performances we had done recently. It wasn’t a big surprise for us, we could see how we were improving and it was the icing on the cake for us.”

About what made him feel optimistic: “The talent of this team, that everyone was competing at a high level and through their teams they made the difference. The big downside was that there wasn’t much experience. All national teams when they make this change from experienced players to younger ones have some ups and downs. The most important thing is the experience.”

For leadership shown by some players and the example of Panagiotis Retsos: “Retsos had the elements from a very young age, there are some players who show leadership characteristics from a young age. You saw an 18-year-old player as if he was 28. Then he went through some difficult situations, like everyone, he had some injuries. Now he is ready to show that he has improved and present the package he can. It is important that the foundations have been laid in this group. Every footballer who comes, whether he starts or was called up again, sees what the standards are in the National Team and behaves accordingly. Our priority is the national team and nothing else, everyone gives us 100%”.

For the competition that exists in all positions, on the occasion of Dimitris Giannoulis: “It is very important for teams that have ambitions to have healthy competition. It exists in the National Team in all positions. Dimitris (née Giannoulis) did not play, but he has shown his worth as a footballer. This is our profession, every time we are judged by the result and we owe our performance to high standards. One to spoil the chemistry, it shows on the field. We compete as a team and put the national team above all else.”

For the pressure that exists for the qualification: “We are not concerned with what anyone will say. If we had entered into this process we would have lost a lot and we would not have shown this face. This is all about the spiritual part. We have proven that we can now handle these types of games. The two games against Ireland were such games, the first one at home was very important, with tremendous pressure. We should have won it. If we lost, even with “X”, the achievement we had in mind would also end. We didn’t just win, we were much better throughout, we did it all. Indeed these matches are different, it has to do with the spirit. We are ready to handle any kind of situation.”

On whether there are thoughts that they can play in the Euro without Poget: “There’s no need to talk about it. If there’s something I don’t like in my life, it’s injustice. It will be a great injustice, because we have started this whole effort with him. Nobody wants that. We feel good with the coach. In all matches, except one, we have an excellent image. I see no reason to change. If the coach wants to do something else, that’s different. If the coach wants to stay and doesn’t come to what we all did together, it’s unfair.

It will be very difficult for someone else to come. We will play at the end of March, a coach will come in April… We will have a few days, it is not easy. He may be a good coach, but it won’t be easy to find our footing. I don’t think that will happen. The March matches are ahead, we have to put our energy there and in the end everything will be fine”.

About whether they felt that the world supports them: “We felt it in these games. When we started we had some matches in OAKA with 1000 people. It was our goal to bring people to the stadium, to enjoy what they see. Big win for us. We know that people are demanding. When we ourselves have demands from ourselves, we also bring the world closer to us.”

For the moment of the match against France when he felt that we are a good team: “At 2-1 I felt that we would score a third goal. When I saw the action taken by Giannoulis I said “what a group this is”. We upset the second, third best team in the world.”
