The completion of her collaboration with Sauber Motorsport announced the Alfa Romeowhose journey in Formula 1 will end after his Grand Prix Abu Dhabiwhich is also the last of this season.
Despite the rumor that there will be a new sponsorship partnership between Alfa Romeo and Haas F1the first is expected to be absent from the next championship, even releasing an announcement, in which it refers to the racing history of the brand, but also to its six-year collaboration with Sauber.
Alfa Romeo’s announcement in detail:
“Alfa Romeo has been globally identified with racing and cutting-edge technology, almost as long as cars have existed. In 1925 the GP Tipo P2 dominated the first World Grand Prix Championship, so already in the pre-war seasons of the institution the brand played an important role in Formula 1 both as a manufacturer and as an engine supplier.
In 1950 and 1951 he won the Drivers’ Championship with Nino Farina and Juan Manuel Fangio respectively, while from 1976 Alfa Romeo participated in the event by manufacturing and supplying engines. After returning to constructors’ level in 1979, the team finished sixth in the 1983 Constructors’ Championship – its best result – and in 1985 it was retired.
It took almost 30 years of absence until 2018 when Alfa Romeo made a strong return to Formula 1 through a commercial and technological partnership with Sauber Motorsport. In the 6 years that followed, a fruitful and passionate partnership was realized, during which both sides gained a lot.
At the 2023 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, this partnership comes to an end and it is time for Alfa Romeo to thank all those who shared with it these wonderful years in Formula 1. Which might not have been possible without Sergio Marchionne, who wanted very much this collaboration and strongly supported it.
A huge “thank you” is obviously due to the drivers who over the years fought hard on the track in support of the team: Charles Leclerc, Marcus Ericsson, Antonio Giovinazzi, Kimi Raikkonen, Zhu Guangyu and Valtteri Bottas (listed in chronological order) gave their best themselves in every Grand Prix.
Sincere thanks and a big round of applause to the entire Sauber Motorsport team, starting with Finn Rausing, Fred Wasser – above all, as well as Alumni Bravi and Andreas Seidl, for their consistent and passionate collaboration.
We are also indebted to all team members for their excellent support. First and foremost to Ferrari for supplying the power units, while special mention must go to Adler, Ferrari Trento, Marelli, Sabelt and Web Eyewear. Warm congratulations and thanks also go to Pirelli, the supplier of the tires, for their valuable offer.
Finally, we wish our competitors a future full of racing success”.
