Draws for Greece and Pre-Olympics

Today it takes place at its offices FIBA just outside Geneva the draw for the four Pre-Olympic Tournamentswhich will be held July 2-7 and will give the same number of last tickets to the Olympic Games in Paris.

Before the draw, which will start at 20:00, FIBA ​​will announce where these four tournaments will be held. Greece will be the host for the first time since 2008, when he participated for the last time in the Olympic Games. The other three tournaments are expected to be held in Spain, Latvia and Puerto Rico.

For the draw they formed six capacity groups, each with four teams and Greece is in second. Based on geographic criteria and representation of all continents (or more) in each tournament, FIBA ​​announced some restrictions with the most basic being that it is not possible to have more than two European teams in each group and more than three European teams in each tournament. Also, each tournament will have at most one team from the Americas, from Asia or Oceania, and from Africa.

1st group: Spain, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovenia

2nd group: Brazil, Italy, Greece, Poland

3rd group: Puerto Rico, Montenegro, Dominican Republic, Finland

4th group: New Zealand, Georgia, Mexico, Lebanon

5th group: Croatia, Ivory Coast, Angola, Philippines

6th group: Egypt, Bahamas, Cameroon, Bahrain

Every Pre-Olympic Tournament will have two groups of three teams. In Group A of each tournament there will be teams from the 1st, 4th and 5th capacity groups and in Group B teams from the 2nd, 3rd and 6th capacity groups. This means that Greece will certainly not find Brazil, Italy and Poland on its way which is with her in the second capacity group. In the first phase, they will play in the same group as one of Montenegro, Dominican Republic and Finland (since Puerto Rico will be the host) and one of Egypt, Bahamas, Cameroon and Bahrain. In theory, its strongest opponent will be in the other group and will be one of Lithuania and Slovenia, since Spain and Latvia will be the hosts.

The eight teams that have already qualified for the Olympics are France (host), Germany, Serbia (Europe), USA, Canada (America), Japan (Asia), South Sudan (Africa), Australia (Oceania). The Olympic basketball tournament will be held from July 27th to August 11th in France with the first phase being hosted at “Pierre Morois” in Lille and the final at “Palais de Bercy” in Paris.
