According to the Daily Mail, Brighton fans were accidentally teargassed after Greek police tried to remove some of their fans AEK after its end match at the “OPAP Arena” for the Europa League (0-1).
They can be seen in videos posted on social media friends of the “seagulls” to cover their noses and mouths to avoid being exposed to tear gas. As reported by the English publication, the police used tear gas to remove some “Union” fans who were close to the plexiglass partition with the visitors’ stand and did not leave.
It is worth noting, however, that the atmosphere between the fans of the two teams was excellent and there were no deviations. Brighton were officially positioned for the event: “Once again Brighton’s traveling fans honored the club and supported the team on a historic night. We are aware of a small number of post-match micro-incidents. We understand this resulted in the police using tear gas. This inadvertently affected a number of Brighton fans. We will investigate further and seek clarification from AEK – who as a club have been excellent hosts – and from UEFA, but for now we will not comment further».
1/2 The tear gas that was deployed at the end of the game was at AEK supporters who wouldn’t clear the bowl or immediate area. A number of cannisters were fired resulting in the gas coming back into the stadium due to the still night. I know a number of you were affected
