Bend the fighter Atletico MADRID returning to positive results and staying in the hunt for the top Barcelona!
After last week’s stunner at the home of Vallecano, the “Blaugrana” celebrated an important victory with 1-0 against the Madrilenians, going back to -4 behind leaders Real Madrid and Girona. “Golden scorer” for the winners o Joao Felixwho hurt his… ex by scoring the only goal of the match.
Barcelona came into the game strongly and created their first goal-scoring opportunity in the 2nd minute when Rafinha received the ball inside the Rojiblancos area but shot wide, while in the 6th minute the Brazilian crossed, with Lewandowski he misses with a header, even though he was completely unmarked.
In the 13th minute, the Polish striker wasted another good chance on behalf of the home team, when after a cross from Kunde, he sent the ball high and out with a spin. Finally, the “Blaugrana” opened the scoring in the 28th minute, when after a vertical pass from Rafinha, Felix found himself facing Oblak and beat him with an ideal “sting” of the ball, for 1-0!
In the 33rd Hermoso collected a beautiful pass from Morata but shot wide of Peña’s right-hand post, while in the 36th Griezmann broke into the box but De Jong blocked his shot heading for goal.
Barcelona continued to dominate, reaching the second goal in the 58th minute, when Rafinha, after a wonderful partnership with Pedri, fired at Oblak’s left post. Entering the ‘final stretch’ of the match, Atletico stepped up their pressure, missing a huge chance to equalize in the 80th minute when Pena impressively saved Depay’s direct free-kick, with the ball hitting the crossbar, before heading over. In the 86th minute and after a Barcelona counter-attack, Lewandowski misses the target from an advantageous position. At 90’+4′, Atletico missed another chance to equalize, but Peña made an instinctive save from Correa’s cross.
