With an “outbreak” in the second half, the Red Star defeated Alba Berlin 85-71 at the “Stark Arena” for the 14th matchday of the Euroleague and reached 5-9 their record and 14th place, leaving the Germans at 2-12 and consistently in last place.
The players of Yannis Sfeiropoulos had a steady lead from the beginning of the match, they reached +9 at the end of the half and in the second half with consecutive three-pointers they reached +15 and +18 and the final victory.
Leading the winners were Nedovic with 20, Giedraitis with 19 and Teodosic with 12 points. For Gondaleth’s team, Olinde stood out with 12 and Tieman with 12 points.
The match
The lead alternated at the start of the match with racket and perimeter scoring for both opponents, with Mitrovic leading the way offensively for the Serb against most solutions for Gondaleth. With a show by Nedovic and Giedraitis, Asteras went on an 8-0 run and reached 59-42 at the start of the third period. Vetzel with a personal run reduced the score to 59-46 and, with the difference going up and down to +11 to +13, Giedraitis’ three-pointer made it 66-50 and with Napier’s actions, the third quarter ended at 71-53.
In the fourth quarter, it took three minutes to score a basket and 71-55 by Thomas, with Brown going on a 4-0 run of the “albatross” for 71-57. Davidovac’s 3-pointer made it 76-59 and two runs by the 6.75 Serbian international forward made it 82-62. Nedovic brought it 85-65 and Alba with a 6-0 run reduced it to 85-71, which was also the final result.
