The derby of the ages was painted red and white! THE Olympic they had an excellent evening Stern and Hidalgohe also hit from his serve and prevailed with characteristic comfort and 3-1 set Panathinaikou behind closed doors “Melina Merkouri”.

The match
Excellent start from the “red and white” who quickly found themselves at +4 (8-4) and then at +5 (13-8), hitting through their serve, but Panathinaikos had the answers to keep close to the score ( 17-15). Nevertheless, the hosts continued to “hit” from the serve, having 5 aces and managed to take the first set 25-21.
The two teams went point by point in the second set, with the match being particularly impressive and the consecutive changes in the score. Petraeus and Kovar had taken the “greens” by the hand in scoring, with Olympiakos relying on Hidalgo and reaching the set-bowl (24-23), but not being able to take the set. Because Panathinaikos turned it upside down, with the bra-de-fer continuing between the two teams, but the visitors managed to tie the score at 1-1, taking the last two points with Hernandez’s terrific spot-kick and Voulikidis’ ace in the “caps” .
Olympiacos entered the third set with a lead and cleaned it with typical ease. Hidalgo had a big day, taking 3 of the first 4 Olympiakos points for 4-1, with the “clover” reducing to a point (7-6) thanks to the quality of Hernandez. Despite this, the “red and white” were superior and had more options in their attack, reaching 16-10, while they even reached +7. With the guests reacting, going on a 4-0 run and reducing the score to 24-22, however, Koumentakis with a block on Protopsaltis gave Piraeus the lead in the set (2-1).
Explosive start in the fourth set from Olympiakos as they found themselves leading 5-0, but a quick 4-1 run by Panathinaikos reduced the score to 6-4. Olympiacos responded with the same run for 10-5 and then increased the lead… winning to +8 (14-6) with the “clover” suspecting several errors in its attack. Things were going great for the Piraeus and disastrous for the “greens” who saw the match being lost! They tried to fight back, turning 18-11 into 20-15, but the hosts did not panic and managed to take the win with a 3-1 set, clearing the last one with a score of 25-20.
