Goalball: Bronze for the women, eighth for the men at the European Championships in Montenegro

The previous time the National Women’s Goalball team won the bronze medal in a European Championship was in 2005 and we come to 2023 and the European Championship hosted in Montenegro, with the women’s team climbing to the third step of the podium.

The girls of Meni Kessanopoulos in Saturday’s “small” final beat Great Britain 1-0 with a goal from Vasiliki Ago.

The gold medal for the third time was won by Turkey, who defeated Israel in the final with 8-4. Israel, in addition to the silver medal, also secured the “ticket” for the Paris Paralympics, as Turkey had already qualified.

In the women’s team, the following competed: Vasiliki Agos, Evlambia Mavrovouniotis, Evangelia Grintzali, Paraskevi Naka, Eleni Chalkiadaki, Eugenia Stamatis.

Men are in eighth place

The men’s national team in the same event took eighth place, as in the ranking match for places 7-8 they were defeated by Great Britain 5-3, a result that now leads them to the B’ division.

The men’s gold medal went to Ukraine who beat former champions Lithuania 8-3 to book their ticket to Paris.

The third step of the podium went to Turkey, who beat Israel 5-2.

The national men’s team competed in the event with: Grigorio Tatsis, Ioannis Skourboutis, Athanasios Hatzipantou, Adriano Beziani, Charalambos Kordakis, Sokratis Dingolis.
