The “heart” of Greek basketball beat loudly this weekend in Carditsawith the 26th All Star Game concluding with the great showdown between Team Walkup and Team Sloukas!
After a highly impressive and satisfying game, with countless spectacular spikes, big three-pointers, but also many smiles on and off the court, the Walkup team took the derby in the end and prevailed with a score of 177-165!
MVP of the event was named Isaiah Caananwith the American guard of Olympiakos finishing the match with 27 points (7/18 sq.) and 11 assists! Brajkovic and Bogris they followed in performance for Team Walkup with 25 and 20 points respectively!
For Sluka’s team, they stood out Galinat (33p.), Antetokounmpo (16p.), Campengele (28 p., 4/8 sq.), Lorentzakis (23p.) and Godlock (21 p.)!
The match:
The All Star Game started with Walkup, Kaanan, Kalaitzakis, Kuzminskas and Renfro in Team Walkup’s starting five, with Slouka’s consisting of Panathinaikos guard AKTOR himself, Vildosa, Papanikolaou, Larentzakis and Campengele.
The spectacle was amazing from the very beginning of the match, with the crowd in the stands losing count of the impressive spikes early on. Bankston, Campengele and Costas Antetokounmpo wowed the audience with their incredible spikes, while Larentzakis, who was constantly performing behind 6.75m, opened… a dialogue with his captain at Olympiakos, Papanikolaou, asking the referees to charge him with unsportsmanlike conduct!
The scoring and the rich spectacle did not stop for a minute, with Team Walkup leading 42-36 in the first quarter. In the second period, Galinat, Larentzakis and Antetokounmpo started “hot”, helping Team Slukas to get ahead of the score and close the first half time ahead with 80-75!
Highlights of the second period were none other than his nailing Giannouli Larentzakis, who was waiting for the help of Kostas Antetokounmpo, with the Greek center of Panathinaikos AKTOR lifting “Larry” with his hands so that he could hang from the hoop! He also had his honor George Bogris, with the tall Amarousiou nailing powerfully and celebrating it, raising to his… foot the Closed Yiannis Bourousis”!
At halftime, the much-hyped nail-biting contest was held, admittedly the moment everyone waits for at every All Star. Nate Renfro (Peristeri bwin), Chris Bankston (Aris), Michael Gilmore (PAOK), Chad Brown (Apollon Patras, Jean Bryant (Hermis Schimatariou)) participated there. American forward of Peristeri bwin won the titledefeating Jean Bryant in the final with two incredible 50’s!
Due to the nature of the match, the score was of a high standard, but nevertheless the game was a real derby! And that’s because whichever team got away with the score, the other one collected the difference, thus giving an interest in the outcome and the final result of the match. Kaanan and Brajkovic on the one hand and Campengele (!), Toliopoulos and Galinat on the one hand saw the opponent’s basket as… a barrel behind from 675m., with the third period ending with Team Slukas in front with 133-130!
The derby continued in the fourth and final period! In the end, the match was decided a little earlier, since the Bogris, Brajkovic and Netzipoglou they took Team Walkup by the hand, leading them to the upset and victory with the final as satisfying as it was 177-165 over Team Sloukas!
The quarters: 42-36, 75-80, 130-133, 177-165.
