Antetokounmpo: “No one expected a skinny kid from Greece to surpass Jabbar”

by

Proud of his new achievement, be it first rebounder in Bucks historystated John Antetokounmpo stressing that he doesn’t take anything for granted and that he wants to enjoy every moment.

It’s a wonderful feeling. I hope there are more to come. I have other ambitions, I want to continue playing at a high level, take care of my body and when you do that, you also break records. I’m blessed to now be the leading rebounder in Bucks history, but I have to keep going. Obviously other players will come who will break these records, logically no one expected a skinny kid from Greece to break Jabbar’s records but it happened. Hopefully, if I’m not busy with my kids or on some island enjoying my life, I’ll be here to applaud whoever breaks my records“, said the 29-year-old ace.

Asked about which record he has now set his sights on, he replied: “I would be ungrateful if I thought about this thing all the time. When you get caught up in them, the records, the lists, and social media, you’re not being the best player, teammate, and person you can be. I don’t know what the future holds for me, but I’m focused on enjoying the ride. I hope I can do this for another ten years and when I stop I can say I gave my best to the sport. And where does that put me on the record lists? I’m trying to improve, but I feel like I have more room, I have more to give. I’m not done yet».

About his coexistence for almost ten years with Chris Middleton he said jokingly: “I matured, I grew up beautifully, he aged, he looks like he is 40!».

Finally, when asked about the upcoming match with Spurs of Victor Webanyama, he answered: “To be honest, I don’t watch basketball. I understand the noise he has caused, I also hear my teammates saying what Viktor is doing, but I have no idea what he is doing, how many points he is scoring etc. I will try to do the best for my team in this match as well».
