The PSAT Board of Directors honored the legend of Greek basketball, Nikos Galisthe man who changed the history of the sport in Greece, in a beautiful ceremony at the Concert Hall.
Last August, the Hellenic Basketball Federation (EEC) retired the number 4 jersey he wore in his international career and became the first Greek basketball player who was given this honor.
He is the all-time leading scorer in National team (5,129 points in 168 games, 30.5 average), with an individual record of 53 points in the Greece-Panama game. In 2017 he joined the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
The award was given by the president of the EEC, Vangelis Liolios. After playing a video and receiving his award, the “gangster” humorously stated “I don’t have the hair I had then”to continue:
“Happy new year with health to everyone. I thank PSAT for honoring me several times as the best athlete, but today is a special honor for me. My daughter, who is here with the national cheerleading team, will also be honored later. But I also have a very big problem, my daughter keeps making fun of me that she has won more gold medals. The kids deserved it and well done to them. I was against violence when I was playing and I said that sports should be a theater, you take the family and you can enter the field. I still believe it today, if we all believe it we will succeed”.
